Cliff was of a generation where a man was a man and he had the strength of character to be his own person. He also worked mostly in a man's world but some of us slipped into that world, myself being one. Due to circumstances, we ended up enabling each other. Cliff didn't have to get to grips with the computer programs, allowing me to develop more skills. It was in working closely with Cliff that showed me another side of his character - his thoughtfulness. He would think about how to layout his traverse lines to make it easier for drawing the plans (notwithstanding the Saxton wedge). His field notes were always complete with great diagrams. Going with Cliff onto construction sites, his protectiveness and apology for the language I'd probably hear and not to take it personally. Cliff knew how to be a gentleman. He loved his work and it was only at the last did I see Cliff come in tired from a day out in the sun and wind. To Cliff's family - you can be proud of the person your father was. Stephanie Alderson
